Genius Foods Ltd

Interesting to see things being made. A day at the factory to record the processes involved in gluten free bread baking and then some food shots for Instagram.

A Considered Place

A Considered Place is an exhibition curated by Dorothy Williams, it opened at Drum Castle near Aberdeen and then at The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh. I was commissioned to document the artists in their studios, their work and then onto the exhibition hanging at Drum Castle. The artists, Jo Barker, Sara Brennan, Jane Bustin, Susan Mowatt and Andrea Walsh work in tapestry, ceramic, glass and mixed media collages. I made a set of pictures that I’m very happy with, reflecting the mood of the castle and the work. It was such a team environment and so nice to see a printed catalogue produced, a rarity nowadays.

Joanna Kessel

I recently spent a great day with Joanna Kessel shooting at The Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, we used their outdoor spaces and fantastic backdrop to shoot in quickly changing daylight. It brought out the reflective elements of her mosaic tiles and lifted the texture. We used a studio to hang recent exhibition work, the building shape lent itself to the look we were after. It was such a productive day everything came together and we produced a set of images that sets off Joanna’s work beautifully.

Royal Edinburgh Hospital

For the last year I have been commissioned to document the design, build and installation of work by 4 artists for the new Royal Edinburgh Building at the REH. Juli Bolanos-Durman, Frances Priest, Kenneth Mackay and Laura Spring are working with different media, scale and locations around the building.

The commission is on going with visits to each studio to shoot portraits and work in progress, I’ll then be at the build and final install. Frances Priest has completed a ceramic art work with unique tiles she designed installed in the corridor ‘ The Tiled Corridor ‘ is for patients and staff between two hospital buildings, it creates a colourful and tactile break in otherwise plain surroundings. The light and reflections create a calming wave to walk through even in dull grey winter light. The other projects are in various stages of completion and more documentation of the build at the studio stage will be undertaken.

It’s been great to spend time with each artist in their studio talking through the processes and seeing the designs come to life.

The Island Bakery

A set of biscuit pictures for the lovely folk at The Island Bakery, all biscuits reshot and retouched carefully to look perfect for packs and POS material and show stand banners. A bit more fiddly than you’d expect but I had plenty of product to choose from and enough for a cup of tea later.
